Gene L Tujetsch

Gene L. Tujetsch was born the son of Lawrence "Lenz" and Hildegard (Berns) Tujetsch, July 9, 1921, near Guttenberg. He died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at Guttenberg Care Center. Gene graduated from St. Marys School in 1939, attended the University of Iowa for 3 yrs,and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, earning five bronze stars. On May 21, 1946, he was united in marriage with Mary Zalaznik, at St. Josephs Church in Farley Iowa. For twenty years he worked at the Tujetsch Grocery Store, first for his father and later purchasing it from his dad. then he became Post Master of the Guttenberg Post Office for twenty-eight years. He was a member of Guttenberg American Legion Post 373, Knights of Columbus Council 4148, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary; one daughter, Ann (Doug) Fariello of Guttenberg; one sister, Alice (Keith) Neely of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Robert (Bettie) Tujetsch of Waterloo, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
