George Bernell Kuehl, age 88, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born the son of George and Cora (Cook) Kuehl, September 25, 1922, on the family farm near Elkader. Burnell graduated from the Elkader High School and farmed with his family for many years. On June 10, 1946, he was united in marriage with Eileen Stoeffler at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo. Bernell was a member of St. Joseph Choir; St. Joseph Cemetery Board; Clayton County Fair Board; Garnavillo Community Booster; 4-H leader; Farm Bureau ; Trees Forever; Garnavillo Economic Development Committee; and was honored as the 2010, 4 of July Garnavillo Parade Grand Marshall. He is survived by his two sons, Dennis (Joanne) Kuehl and Lonny (Cindie) Kuehl of Garnavillo; nine grandchildren, Regina (Chad) Harbaugh, Tonya (Brian) Thiese, Desiree (Kyle) Wegmann, Kyle Kuehl friend Caitlin, Bryon (Tracy) Kuehl, Corby (Jamie) Kuehl, Steve (Allison) Kuehl, Amanda (Mike) Pettit, and Kate (Jared) Landt; eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Lyle (Judy) Kuehl of Grinnell and Rev. Gene Kuehl of Yucaipa, California; and two sisters-in-law, Eileen Kuehl and Jerry McNeal. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Bernice Himbaugh, and four brothers, Realto, Ralph, Merlin, and Norbert.Visitation: Friday 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
