George Klas

Survivors include his wife Bertha; children: Janet (Mike) Morrow of Tempe, AZ; Lois (Chuck) Votsmier of Waukon, IA; Cheryl (Don) Kass of Farley, IA; Daryl (Kim) Klas of St. Louis, MO; Judy (Randy) Winter of Marion, IA; and David (Michelle) Klas of New Vienna; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Klas of New Vienna; one sister, Agnes Klas of New Vienna; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill (Rosie) Deppe, Adella (Don) Helle, Gladys Schemmel, Hilda (Melvin) Reittinger, Sr. Julitta Deppe OSF and Norma Deppe. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Clara Klas and Alma Rolfes; brothers-in-law Al Rolfes, Leo Schemmel and Lawrence Deppe, and a sister-in-law Helen Deppe. George was born on May 23, 1928 in New Vienna, the son of Joseph and Celia (Oberbroeckling) Klas. He married Bertha Deppe on October 18, 1949 in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they raised their family and farmed near New Vienna. George enjoyed weekly Solo card games and treating his family to Sunday breakfast. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 5 p.m.
