Germaine T. Haag, 89, of Monticello died peacefully and surrounded by her family Thursday, February 24, 2011, at her residence. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville, Iowa. Rev. Keith Birch will officiate. Germaine was born February 8, 1922, in Dyersville, Iowa the daughter of Bernard "Ben" and Frances (Sabres) Goerdt. She graduated from high school, traveled and worked out of state, and returned to Iowa and married Victor Haag in 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Dubuque. She worked for HACAP in Monticello and Anamosa for 44 years during which she organized the congregate meal site in Monticello. Surviving are 4 children: Dennis Haag of Waukon, IA, Michele (Ray) McIntire of Jesup, IA, Jude (Rhona) Haag of Olin, IA and Anne Foster of Monticello; 5 grandchildren: Silvia Brown and Tony Brown (who was raised by Germaine), Andrea, Jerame and Timothy Foster; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Bernice Lund of Santa Barbara, CA, and a brother, Alvin Goerdt of Clinton, IA; brothers-and-sisters-in-laws: Virgil Haag and Kathryn Haag of Monticello, IA, and Greg (Claretta) Haag of New Orleans, LA. She is preceded in death by her husband, 1 great-grandchild, JT Yarolem, 2 brothers: Elmer and LaVern Goerdt.
