Gladys M. Knipper, 83, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Manor Care in Dubuque, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2 – 7 pm Friday, September 30, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW, Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. and an American Legion Rosary will be recited at 4 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 – 9:30 am at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Oct. 1, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Gladys was born on June 28, 1933, in Holy Cross, Iowa the daughter of Anton and Susan (Ries) Maiers. She was united in marriage to Virgil Knipper on June 21, 1954, in Holy Cross, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2009. Gladys enjoyed waitressing at the Roundup Room, the Knight Light and Dyersville Family Restaurant. She will be remembered by a generation of Beckman High School Students as the lunch lady. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 137. Survivors include her children: Kevin, Keith (Kate) and Karla Knipper, all of Dyersville, and Kurt (Katie) Knipper of Whitefish Bay, WI, 5 grandchildren: Charles, William, Paul, Tim (Megan), and Erin (fiancé Dean Treanor) Knipper; great grandchildren, Sydney, Nash and Liam Knipper, and Diem Treanor; in-laws, Dorothy Maiers of Dyersville, Paul (Delaine) Knipper of Dyersville, Donna Manternach of Manchester, and Harold Heyer of Merced, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil, siblings: Norma (Fred) Wessels, Merlin “Dixie” Maiers; in-laws: Nellie (Richard) Steffen, Anita (Albin) Wulfekuhle, Gladys Heyer, and Gerald Manternach. The family would like to thank the staffs at Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque, and Dr. Janes for the excellent care of our mother.
