Harold Lloyd Mueller was born the son of Lloyd and Adele (Hamann) Mueller on May 21, 1923 in McGregor, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Guttenberg Care Center from complications following surgery. Harold was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. He received his education from the Hawkeye Country School and graduated from Garnavillo High School. On September 3, 1942, he married Ivanell Rose Breitsprecher at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. Their 65-year marriage was blessed with ten children. The majority of Harrys life was spent farming and later selling and constructing grain bins. In retirement, Harry spent 15 years as the school crossing guard for the City of Garnavillo where he was fondly known to all as "Grandpa Harry". He was known for adding character to his job by most notably dressing as Santa Claus. In 1999, he was awarded the Garnavillo Community School "Friend of Education Award" for his dedicated support of the school system. He served on the school board for many years and was instrumental in the construction of the current Clayton Ridge Middle School building in Garnavillo. He and his wife, Ivy, were avid supporters of school events including athletics, music and the arts. In 2001, he received the "A+ For Education Award" from KCRG TV9 for his service as the school crossing guard. In 2004, Harry was awarded an "Above and Beyond" award from Governor Thomas Vilsack for outstanding service to Iowas children in the area of public safety. Harry believed everyone deserved a smile and a wave because it didnt cost him a dime. Harry was an active member of the Garnavillo Community Boosters and was the fearless leader of the Teddy Bear Parade. He was also a life-long and dedicated member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa, where he served on numerous committees. He served on the church council, the Brotherhood and the fair stand where he loved frying hamburgers. His love of life included family time and dancing with his beloved Ivy. He enjoyed having lunch at Rauschs, sweet rolls from Benders and malts from Thomas. Harry had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed singing his trademark song, "Oh Lord Its Hard To Be Humble". Harry will be sadly missed by his five daughters, Kay (Lynn) Ihde, Kathy (Wayne) Helle both of Garnavillo, Sue (Lee) Connell of Cedar Rapids, Amy Wrightsman of Decorah, Heidi (Charles) Berns of Coralville; three sons, Dennis of Dewitt, Bruce (Bonnie) of Coralville and Craig (Mary) of Guttenberg; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy, his parents, one daughter, Dottie Lou in infancy, one son David in Viet Nam, one grandson, Troy Ihde, his sister Ariel Zittergruen and his brother, Gene Mueller. Harrys exit from this life is marked with his famous one-liner, "I am glad you got to see me."In Lieu of flowers and other types of sympathy, memorials may be sent to P.O.
