Herbert "Bud" Kann, age 76, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born the son of Herbert H. and Ida (Heck) Kann on August 15, 1934 on the home farm near Garnavillo. Bud received his education from the local country school. He was a self taught carpenter and spent almost 30 years working in carpentry and farming. He also spent 13 years working for John Deere as an inspector. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. On June 10, 1967, Bud was united in marriage to Grace Meyers at Holy Trinity Church in Luxemburg. They were later blessed with two children. Bud enjoyed calling bingo at St. Marys for over 12 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed and participated in restoring the Kann-St. Michael and Eastman Cemetery. Bud was known as the prop master for the Clayton Ridge Drill Team as he would make many of their props for competition. Bud also took pride in helping restore St. Marys Church. He was a handyman, jokester, avid card player and Mr. Betty Crocker in the Kitchen. Bud is survived by his two children, Rhonda Kann of Guttenberg and Kevin Kann of Des Moines; two grandsons, Dane and Stone Schroeder; two siblings, Mary Parker and Verdus Kann and many friends throughout the community. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace, one sister, Donna Nieland; two brothers, Loren and Reynold Kann.In Lieu of flowers, plants and all other gifts, Bud has requested that memorials be sent to the Kann/St. Michael Cemetery or the St. Mary's Rectory Improvement Fund.Visitation: Monday 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. January 31, 2011 at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home Guttenberg, Iowa and one hour before service at church.Funeral Service: Tuesday 10:00 A.M.
