Herman Benskin

Herman Robert Benskin was born the son of William and Ethel (Brunner) Benskin, March 2, 1917, at Greeley, Colorado. He died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Herman received his education locally; worked in construction; farmed and owned and operated the Benskin Brothers Boat Line. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. On February 10, 1985, he was united in marriage with Marie (Rohner) Wachendorf. Survivors include his wife, Marie; three daughters, Cheryl (Roger) Torrey of Hiawatha, Donna Pierce-Benskin of Eldridge, and Betty (Daniel) Westemeier of Asbury; three sons, Jack (Linda) Benskin of Guttenberg, Paul (Judy) Benskin of Campbellsville, Kentucky, and Kent (Julie) Benskin of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two sisters, Alma Pensel of Guttenberg, and Alice Tomkins of Mattoon, Illinois; two brothers, Oran (Marion) Benskin of De Ridder, Louisiana, and Ralph Benskin of Livingston, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Fourteen step-children; Shirley (Rick) Palmer of Easton, Pa., Judy (Dale) Wiese of Federal Way, Washington, Jim (Lisa) Wachendorf of Coralville, Susan (Dayle) Troester of Manchester, Joanne (Al) Kuhse of Edgewood, Pat (Cindy) Wachendorf of Guttenberg, Jeannie (Jim) Funk of Edgewood, Mike (Becky) Wachendorf of Stanwood, C.J. (Dina) Wachendorf of Stanwood, Pam (Larry) Wille of Guttenberg, Randy Wachendorf of Dyersville, Tina Hansel of Waterloo, Paul (Patty) Wachendorf of Stanwood and Kathy (John) Greve of Guttenberg; 40 step-grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley; one brother, John, and two sisters, Edna Penrod and Marie French.
