Hilda Marie (Hefel) Wagner Engelken, age 79, of New Vienna, IA, formerly of Elkport died Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Guttenberg Care Center with her family by her side following a long illness. She was born the daughter of John and Marie (Ludovissy) Hefel on May 9, 1929 near North Buena Vista. Hilda received her education from the local country school and worked as a cook for the Central Community Hospital in Elkader, she also worked at Muters Co Original Enders Co., Elkader Wire Co., but her main duty in life was taking care of her family. She was united in marriage with Clarence J. Wagner September 30, 1947. To this union they were blessed with five children. Clarence passed away May 12, 1985. On June 26, 1993, she was married to Gerald "Sunshine" Engelken, at St Michaels Church in Garber. Hilda was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Eagles Club in Guttenberg. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, canning, making pies, fruit cakes and cream puffs and taking trips to the gambling boat. She is survived by her husband Gerald "Sunshine" Engelken; of New Vienna; two daughters, Janet (Clyde) Kruse of Elkader, Julie (Matthew) Cayler of North Liberty, IA; three sons, Clyde (Peggy) Wagner of Guttenberg, Tom (Annette) Wagner of Strawberry Point, Dale (Debra) Wagner of Elkport; five step daughters, Sharon (Duane) Petsche of Farley, Bonnie (Kenny) Schroeder of Holy Cross, Marilyn (Steve) Rutz of Dubuque, Jane (Phil) Deshaw of Dyersville, Lynnann (Mark) Roeder of Manchester; two step- sons, Pat (Carol) Engelken of New Vienna and Brian (Kathy) Engelken of New Vienna; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; twenty two step grandchildren and nineteen step great grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard (Adelene) Hefel of Dubuque and Eugene (Betty) Hefel of Sherrill; four sisters in laws, Joan Kramer of Farley, Alice Hefel of Sherrill, Mary Wagner of Lancaster Wis and Annie Wagner of Glen Haven Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Clarence Wagner, six brothers, Marcellus, Vincent, Lawrence, Louis, Phillip, and Anthony Hefel.Visitation: Wednesday 2:00 - 8:00 P.M.
