Irma Potter

Irma was born on February 23, 1928 in Calmar, Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Elizabeth (Smith) Weis. She attended art and design courses at Clarke College in Dubuque before marrying Byron Leroy Potter on June 25, 1947. Irma was a dedicated homemaker and mother, integrating her artistic talent in making a simple house into a home for her family. Her art work includes quilts, paintings and wood carvings that are displayed throughout Iowa and all over the country, including a large painting displayed at Breitbach's restaurant in Balltown, Iowa, a three dimensional wood carving at the Delaware County courthouse and wall murals at her daughter's consignment store, Treasure Alley in Manchester, Iowa. Irma was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa. Surviving are her children: Joan (David) Kramer of Dubuque, IA, Patricia (Terry) Young of Earlville, IA, Lyle (Cindy) Potter of Cedar Falls, IA, Denise (Mark) White of Manchester, IA, William (Brenda) Potter of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sharon (Frank) Burgraaf of Rhodes, IA, Mary (David) Kenyon of Manchester, IA, John (Julie) Potter of Sherrill, IA, Angela (Shawn) Shere and Jane (Philip) Turner both of Manchester, IA, 32 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and brothers: Paul (Marge) Weis of Stacyville, IA, and Peter (Judy) Weis of Buffalo, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, her husband Bud in 1986. The Potter family wishes to express their gratitude to the Hospice of Dubuque County, especially Edna Scherbring and to her doctors and nurses for their wonderful care, especially Dr. Robert Tomas and nurse Deb Gudenkauf. Friends may call from 3:30 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa. Officiating will be Rev. Lovell.
