John "Jack" Lowell, age 82, of Guttenberg, IA, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center. He was born in Guttenberg on October 6, 1930 to Ralph and Evelyn (Stamm) Lowell. Jack received his education from the St. Marys High School. After high school, Jack was planning on marrying the love of his life until he was drafted into the United States Army in May of 1951, so Jack and Marie Bissell moved their wedding up to January 1, 1951 at St. Marys Church in Guttenberg. On May 8, 1951, Jack entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War until he received his honorable discharge on May 1, 1953. Together Jack and Marie were blessed with three children. Jack worked at Dubuque Packing Company for 29 years and then worked at Nordic Forge for 10 years until he retired. During his life, Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Jack was a long time member of the American Legion where he served as past commander; he was a member of the AMVETS, long time member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and even served as Sunday School Superintendant in the past. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie Lowell; three children, Jackie (John) Kitch, Roger (Kim) Lowell and Carolyn Lowell; two grandchildren, Crystal (Matt) Farrell and Doug Kitch; one great granddaughter, Amberlyn Farrell; three siblings, Edward (Gail) Lowell, Robert (Arlene) Lowell and Teresa (Sal) Mazzocca and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Dayle Kitch; two sisters, Roselyn and Marie in infancy; two brothers, Lawrence and Wayne Lowell.In Lieu of all flowers and all types of sympathy, memorials can be mailed in Honor of Jack to 31697 Hwy 52, Guttenberg IA, 52052 to benefit different organizations that Jack was proud to be a part of.Visitation: Sunday 2:00 - 4:00 P.M.
