Obituary James Allen Groth, age 69, of North Buena Vista, IA, died Monday, August 6, 2018. He was born on May 29, 1949, the son of Otto and Violet (Johnson) Groth. James was born at his home in Elkport, Iowa, he received his education in Elkader and joined the army. James served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1967 till he received his honorable discharge in 1978. During his time of service, James was a Huey helicopter pilot. He worked as an air traffic controller in Dallas Texas for a short time before following in the footsteps of his father and grandmother in the US Postal Service. He worked for over 30 years in Austin TX and his final 2 years in Iowa City before he retired. He moved to North Buena Vista, as he always wanted to retire by the river. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, telling jokes, and making people around him either laugh or shake their heads. He is survived by 4 children, Tonja Feltner, Ottilie (Paul Watson) Walls, Jeremiah (Lisa) Groth) & Norrissa (Brandon) Stowers;7 grandchildren, Michael, Shane, Kaitlyn, Cortney, Kody, Mason and Brody,; 1 great grand-daughter Evelyn; 2 sisters Linda Bond, Colleen (Rodney) Johnson; 3 brothers Bob (Jane) Groth, Roger (Connie) Groth, Wayne (Billie) Groth: special friend Linda Mccasland; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Violet; sisters, Janice (Joe) Fuller and Karen (Bob) Inglis; granddaughter Paige Groth; niece, Michele Barnhart; nephews, James Groth, Tracy and Kevin Barnhart; and a great grand-nephew, Evan Holz.
