Survivors include: his wife, Saundra; 2 sons: Michael J. (Kristine) Covington of Monticello, IA and Preston S. (Kimberly) Covington of Denver, CO; 1 daughter Debra J. (David) Nefler of Sioux Falls, SD; 9 grandchildren; 5 Great-grandchildren; mother Laura Thuman of Cascade, IA and stepfather Louis Thuman of Scotch Grove, IA; 2 brothers: Richard L. (Lila) Covington of Monticello, IA and William F. Covington of Mountain View, MO; 1 sister Diane (Scott) LeClere of Prairieburg, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. James served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married Saundra Schulte on August 10, 1958 at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. James was enjoyed a long career as an insurance salesman and manager at Great West Life and Physicians Mutual holding district offices in Denver and Rapid City. He was the district manager of Boy Scouts of America, in Bismarck, ND. Jim also served in the Elks Club in Rapid City, SD. James and Saundra moved back to Monticello in 1998.
