James Owen

He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Monticello; 2 sons: Leon (Catherine) Owen of Monticello and Keith (Johnnie) Owen of Davenport; 2 grandchildren: Angela (Brian) Kearney of Monticello and Brandon Owen of Davenport; 1 sister, Mabel Pool of Henderson, Texas, and 2 brothers: Robert Owen of Monticello and David Owen of Harrison, Arkansas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Owen Owen, 1 sister, Eleanor Patrick, sister-in-law, Jessie Poyner, and brothers-in-law, Dale, Jim and Harold Poyner. Jim was born November 15, 1921 in Calhan, Colorado the son of John and Tressa (Moreland) Owen. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. When he returned to the United States, Jim met Lucille Poyner whom he married on February 7, 1953 in Raton, New Mexico. They made their home in Peyton, Colorado until moving to Monticello in 1970. Jim worked at Cuckler/Star Manufacturing until retiring to farm his 10 acres in 1987. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Charles Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello where the Monticello Drill Team will accord military honors.
