Janet M. Potter, 86, who resided with her daughter, Deb and Red Alderson, passed away at home from complications of Alzheimers on February 19, 2013. She was born on February 7, 1927, one of twin daughters born to Robert A. and Louise (Burghardt) Marock. Janet graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1944. She married Gene Long on December 14, 1946. Together they had two children. They later divorced. She lived and worked in Dubuque for many years at J.C. Penny Co in downtown Dubuque. On May 25, 1975, Janet married William H. Potter and moved to Garnavillo. Bill and Janet farmed until they retired. Together they traveled throughout the United States and for a number of years spent their winters in Florida. She especially loved tending to her many gardens and feeding all of the family and friends who stopped by. She was a member of the Elkader Iowa Congregations of Jehovahs Witnesses. Surviving are her daughter, Sheri (John) Risley of Dubuque and step children; Lottie (Gary) Rose of Dubuque, Deborah (LaVern "Red") Alderson of Strawberry Point, Rebecca (Michael) Lehman of Walkill New York, William R. (Mary) Potter of Dubuque, Benton (Gail) Potter of Garnavillo, Annette (Kendall) Albrecht of Manchester, Daniel (Dorinda) Potter of Garnavillo, Theodore (Justina) Potter of Colorado and daughter in law Cindy Long; 18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Potter on July 9, 2011, her twin sister Jannan (Marock) Potter, her son, Greg R.
