Jannan L. Bauer

GARNAVILLO, IOWA

Jannan Louise Bauer, 68, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at her home after her long, fought battle with cancer.

No services will be held at this time.

Jannan was born April 8, 1955, daughter of Christopher and Rose (Hildebrand) Bauer.

Jannan graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1973. She attended Area I Voc Tech in Calmar of 1973 – 1974 for clerical class. There, she met a life-long friend, Marcee. Together, they worked at Ertl Toy Company in Dyersville and eventually moving to Dubuque where Jannan accepted a job as a cab driver.

She learned a lot of short cuts in traversing the city and had a lot of interesting passengers. She eventually attended Area I Automotive Mechanic Program as the first female mechanic student. After graduating, she worked at Kmart. She later accepted a position at Brown’s Sales and Leasing. Dave Brown hired his first female mechanic. She worked as a mechanic for several years, then as a service writer, and concluded there as a parts manager. She worked at Browns for 41 years.

Jannan loved to fish, hunt, and go for rides in the UTV.

Survivors include her brother, Ronnie; a sister-in-law, Marcee, many cousins, and several close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Morris, and many aunts and uncles.

Her family wants to thank MercyOne Cancer Center in Dubuque, Hospice of St. Croix and their staff. Also Morris Funeral Home for the caring help provided.

Memorials may be made to Garnavillo EMS, Garnavillo Fire Department, or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo.
