Jerry Schmitt

Jerry "Goob" Schmitt, age 53, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at his home in Guttenberg, IA. He was born the youngest of six children to Melvin J. and Betty Schmitt on March 20, 1958 in Guttenberg. Goob graduated from Guttenberg High School and over the next several years, he spent much of his time installing floor covering in many homes in Guttenberg and the surrounding communities. Many people still today are walking on product that came from Goobs skills and craftsmanship. When he wasnt working, Goob enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, playing guitar, using that talent to contribute to the River Dogs Band and spending time with his daughters and his grandkids. Goob will be forever loved and cherished by his children, Stephanie (Jake) Wharton, Tonya (Thomas) Vogt, 4 grandchildren, Wesley and Reece Wharton, Chloey and Calista Vogt; mother Betty Schmitt; 5 siblings, Chuck Schmitt, Patrick Schmitt, Dan (Lynn) Schmitt, Diane Hubbard and Donna (Bob) Hinzman and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Melvin Schmitt.In Lieu of all styles of sympathetic gifts, a memorial has been established for Goob and gifts may be sent to 1825 Admiral St. Dubuque, Iowa 52002.Visitation: Wednesday 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
