Jo Ann Young

Jo Ann Marie (Morarend) Young, age 66, of Mayhill, NM, formerly of Guttenberg, died Friday, December 27, 2013, at her home with her husband by her side. She was born on December 20, 1947, in Guttenberg to Earl and Phyllis (Noack) Morarend. Jo Ann was baptized on April 11, 1948 and confirmed on April 15, 1962 at St. Paul Church in Garnavillo. On May 20, 1966, she graduated from the Guttenberg High School. That September Jo Ann began a 37 year career with Collins Avionics as an assembly operator. At the age of 33, Jo Ann was transferred Melbourne Florida for her job with Rockwell Collins. She retired from Rockwell Collins as an Industrial Engineering Technician on January 16, 2003. On July 23, 1993, Jo Ann was united in marriage with Richard Young. Her family and belief in God meant everything to her. She went out to several shut-ins from her church visited with them, took them to doctor visits, shopping and gave them communion. She went to India for a month to do mission work. Jo Ann enjoyed her trips back home to spend time with her family. She especially enjoyed family get togethers and watching all the nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews grow up. She always made sure she sat down with all of them to spend one on one time. Jo Ann loved to take pictures of the family. She enjoyed working on her family history, traveling and gardening. She always had to keep busy doing things. Jo Ann was very kind, considerate and down to earth. Jo Ann is survived by her husband Richard Young; mother, Phyllis Morarend of Garnavillo; sister, Karen (Steven) Smith of Anamosa, brothers, Caryles (Bonnie) Morarend of Dubuque, Steven (Mary) Morarend of Lansing and Kevin (Laura) Morarend of Guttenberg; nieces and nephews, Troy (Lynn) Smith, Jeff (Jessica) Smith, Chad (Kim) Morarend, Quinn (Cheryl) Morarend, Shane (Carol) Morarend, Melissa (Brett) Ishman, Tim Morarend, Hilliary Morarend and several great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by father, sister, Leanna Morarend and two brothers in infancy.In Lieu of flowers and all types of sympathy, memorials should be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo or your home church in honor of Jo Ann.Visitation: Saturday 9:30 - 10:30 A.M.
