Joan A. Sadewasser

GUTTENBERG, IOWA

Joan A. Sadewasser, 92, of Guttenberg, Iowa passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg. A visitation will continue from 10 -11 a.m. prior to funeral services at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg with burial to follow at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Joan was born on July 29, 1931, in DeKalb, Illinois Mike and Bernice (Horn) Heller. Joan was raised in the Guttenberg area. She graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1949. She married Donald Sadewasser on August 28, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Joan raised nine children on a farm near Millville, Iowa. She worked diligently, keeping the children in order while helping on the farm. Her faith was very important; she was the secretary at St. John’s Lutheran Church for some time. She loved traveling, music, and watching sports. She had witty one-liners to get the children and grandchildren to listen.

Survivors include her children: David (Elaine) Sadewasser, Dan Sadewasser, Richard (Mary) Sadewasser, Mark Sadewasser, Matthew (Beth) Sadewasser, Julie (Donald) Schmelzer, Linda (Glenn) Hines; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Wanetta Sadewasser; sisters-in-law: Barb Heller, Dorothy (Blair) Beatty, and Annie Horn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 2011; sons: Thomas (Julie Jo) and James; grandson, Justin Schmitt; daughter-in-law, Thalia Sadewasser; siblings: Nick Horn, Lavern (Coralie) Heller, Albert Heller; and a brother-in-law, Delos (Donna) Sadewasser.
