She is survived by her husband, Jim, 10 children: David (special friend Nancy Mullins) Paisley, Jean (special friend Louie Sutter) Paisley, and Sherri (Shawn) Kascel, all of Dubuque, Iowa, Michael (special friend Anita Cullor) Paisley of Mystic, Iowa, Kathleen (special friend Scott Hochberger) Bakey of Rickardsville, Iowa, Patrick (Tami) Paisley and Dennis Paisley, both of Holy Cross, Iowa, Debra (Michael) Jalovec of Lakeland, Florida, Tami Paisley of Dubuque, Iowa and Jennifer Paisley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 15 grandchildren: Levi, Rachael and Gabrielle Bakey, Lexi, Lauren, Leah and Lily Jalovec, Cole, Paisley and Chase Kascel, Devon and Chloe Paisley, Brittanie Dingbaum, Wyatt and Everitt Paisley, and a sixteenth grandchild expected in September; four brothers: Laverne Ploessl of Balltown, Iowa, Andrew (Mary) Ploessl, Jr. James Ploessl, John (Lorene) Ploessl all of Dubuque, Iowa; one sister: Pearl Klein of Dubuque, Iowa, one brother-in-law, Marvin (Linda) Brimeyer of Sherrill, Iowa; 5 sisters-in-law: Eldora Ploessl and Rosemary Ploessl, both of Holy Cross, Iowa, Florence (Howard) Fay, and Doris Paisley, and Fran (Charles) Burkart, all of Dubuque, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters: an infant and Mary Brimeyer; six brothers: Edwin, Francis, Donald, Alvin and two infant brothers, Louis and and her twin, Joseph Ploessl; four brothers-in-law: Merlin "Jim" Klein, William "Herb" Paisley, Robert Paisley, and Lewis F. Paisley, and one sister-in-law, Rita Ploessl. Joan was born April 21, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Andrew and Eleanor (Brunsmann) Ploessl. When she was a few days old her mother died and her sister, Pearl, raised her as her mother would have. She married James Paisley on May 8, 1965, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista, Iowa. Together they farmed near Balltown for the last 43 years. She was a member of the St. Francis Rosary Society. She enjoyed knitting special blankets for the loved ones in her life, playing cards with friends and neighbors. She also liked to read and work puzzles. She was an excellent cook and her home dishes will be greatly missed. Joan E. Paisley, 65, of Holy Cross, Iowa died Friday evening, May 30, 2008, at home after a brief bout with cancer. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Balltown. Rev. Ray Burkle will officiate. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. We would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kelly, and her long-time best friend, Laura Sigwarth, for the compassionate care.
