John Becker

Jack was born July 30, 1940, in Elkader, Iowa the son of Bernard and Eleanor (Kainz) Becker. He graduated from Xavier High School and attended Loras College. From 1959 - 1965 he served in the Army National Guard. Jack was the lead guitarist in his rock and roll band, The Night Riders. He married Joyce Mormann on May 1, 1965 in Dyersville, Iowa. Jack was a professional wood carver for the Thomasville Furniture Co. in Thomasville, NC until he returned to Dyersville to farm and establish his own woodcarving business. He was the creator and owner of the Becker Woodcarving Museum. He is well known for numerous sculptures including religious sculptures that adorn area churches. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, 1 daughter, Abby Becker of Chicago, IL and 1 son, Jude Becker of Dyersville, his mother, Eleanor Becker of Elkader, IA, 2 sisters: Joyce (Frank) Steindl of Stillwater, OK and Kathy (Joe) Schoening of Rockford, IL; 2 brothers: Gary (Barbara) Becker of West Seneca, NY and Paul (Linda) Becker of Dyersville, IA; John was preceded in death by his father, Bernard, in 1986.
