John A. Goedken, of Petersburg, Iowa passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to funeral services. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #137. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. John was born July 30, 1945, in Dyersville, the son of William and Calista (Klaus) Goedken. He married Marilyn Kramer on June 22, 1968, in Dyersville. John served in the United States Army Reserves from 1963 to 1969. He spent his entire life on the family farm and particularly enjoyed planting in the spring and harvesting in the fall. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, children: Bob (Sharon) Goedken of Earlville, Jerry (Karol) Goedken of Dyersville, Deb (Mark) Noble of Minneapolis, MN, Jim Goedken of Petersburg, Jen (Dave Mart) Goedken of Cedar Rapids, Jeff Goedken of Petersburg, Doug (Kristin) Goedken of Petersburg, Jason (Mandy) Goedken of Peosta, 11 grandchildren, siblings: Norma Brunsman of Dyersville, Inez (Francis) Hermsen, Valeria Bockenstedt both of Manchester, Lavern (Patsy) Goedken of Holy Cross, Carol (Dale) Clemen of Dubuque, in-laws: Germaine Goedken of Dubuque, Janet Rolfes of Osage, Ann Pfab of Peosta, Jean (Charles) Schneider, Ed (Sue) Kramer both of Dyersville, John (Bev) Kramer of Belleville, WI, Art (Nancy) Kramer of St. Louis MO, Janice (Ken) Willenborg of Dyersville, and Merle (Darcy Bowden) Kramer of Ypsilanti, MI. He was preceded in death by his son Christopher Goedken, grandchildren Mitchell and Melissa Goedken, his parents, parents-in-law, Elmer and Sylveria Kramer, siblings: Gilbert Goedken, Helen and Emil Wilgenbusch, Stella and Leo Demmer, Mary Lou and Elmer Engelken, Patricia and Marvin Rolfes, in-laws: Vernon Brunsman, Irvin Bockenstedt, Ernie Pfab, and several nieces and nephews.
