Survivors include his wife, Esther, 4 daughters: Ann (Richard) Woodward of Cedar Rapids, IA, Lois (Bill) Lane of Shueyville, IA, Elaine (Francis) Pistek of Garner, IA, and Patricia (Jim) Weisbeck of Worthington, IA, 1 son, Larry (Deanne) Luensmann of Dyersville, 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Rose Ann (Howard) Werner of Worthington and a sister-in-law, Betty Luensmann of Manchester, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers: Alfred, Linus, Elmer, Robert and Billy (in infancy) and 2 sisters: Marie Ernzen and Frances Luensmann. John was born on June 5, 1922 in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Henry and Eleanor (Freking) Luensmann. He married Esther Marie Goedken on September 20, 1945 in Worthington, Iowa. Together they farmed east of Worthington until they moved to town in 1981. John continued to work and be active with the farm and he also worked part-time at Beckman High School for several years. He was an avid lifelong Cubs fan and an Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting the Worthington Feed Store on a regular basis where he was affectionately referred to as "Big Dog". He loved spending time sharing stories with everyone especially his family. His most enjoyable past time was fishing, anytime, anywhere. John's family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care.
