John Meder

John "Jack" F. Meder was born the son of Earl and Josephine (Berns) Meder on November 5, 1925 on the family farm near Mederville. He passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. John moved to Guttenberg at a young age and started working for the fish market at age 9. This is where he developed his love of the river. During high school John entered the U.S. Navy and was proud to serve during WW II. He participated in the AM Theatre and the Asiatic-Pac where he received stars. On November 29, 1952 John was united in marriage with Eileen Wegmann at the Catholic Church in Petersburg. For many years John owned and operated Meder Motor Sales until his retirement. In his free time John loved to go hunting and fishing. John will be sadly missed by his wife Eileen; two daughters, Sharon (Rick) Wittman of Guttenberg, Sandee Meder of Friendswood, Texas; three sons, Steve Meder of Elkader, Kevin Meder of Guttenberg, and Ken (Kim) Meder of St. Louis, Mo; one brother, Dr. D.E. (Helen) Meder of Guttenberg, Nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation: 4:00-8:00 P.M.
