John Seitz

John A. Seitz, 79, of Dyersville died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville after a brief illness. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish vigil will be held at 2:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will preside. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. John was born March 25, 1934, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Raymond and Aileen (Takes) Seitz. He graduated from St. Mary High School in Cascade with the class of 1953. On October 7, 1961, he married Mary Osterhaus at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. John and Mary made their home in Dyersville. He worked at the Dubuque Packing Company and was active with the Knights of Columbus Council 1734, the Dyersville Commercial Club and the Dyersville Sportsman Club. In his retirement he worked for GDM in Dyersville and continued to volunteer at church and in the community. John is survived by his wife, Mary, and three sons: John (Nancy) of Clinton, Joseph (Susan) of Waterloo and Andrew (significant other Breona Soule) of Portland OR; two granddaughters, Kelly (fiance Robert F. Wilson) Seitz and Kara (Andrew) Cecil, both of Jacksonville, FL: a sister, Sr. Susan Seitz of Tyler, TX and a brother, Arnold (Carol) of Dubuque, several nephews, a niece and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.
