John Youngblut

Obituary John Joseph Youngblut, 85, of Guttenberg, passed away April 1, 2022, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born February 26, 1937, in Oelwein, son of Albert and Mary Youngblut. John graduated from Oelwein High School, met Karen Mattice, and were married July 9th, 1960. From this union they had two children, Chris and Adam. John attended Upper Iowa University and received his degree in Education and Coaching. He taught and coached at Arlington, Maquoketa Valley and Bayards, IA. He moved back to Oelwein where he was the High School Vice Principal and Athletic Director. During his career he influenced many students and with great pride they continue to call him "Coach Youngblut". John, Karen and the boys spent summers in Washington State while John got his Masters Degree in Education. They enjoyed many family vacations and spent time skiing, camping and fishing. John was an avid bleachers fan for his grandsons, never missing an event. John and Karen bought a home and retired in Clayton, IA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating as well as hosting get togethers with his friends and family. John is survived by his son Chris; two grandson, Tate Youngblut, McKay (Andrea); 2 great grandchildren, Reese and Boone Youngblut as well as Johns dear friend Arlene Wendt. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Karen and son, Adam. There will be a Celebration of Life on April 23, 2022, at the Guttenberg Community Center located at 715 South River Park Drive, Guttenberg. Visitation will be from 1:00 4:00 P.M. with a scripture service from 3:00 4:00 P.M. Cards may be sent to Chris Youngblut, 104 North Front Street, Clayton, IA 52049.
