Julie Ann Moody

Julie Ann (Rutledge) Moody changed her address to heaven May 11, 2017. She was 25, 427 days old but whos counting? Julie Ann, the daughter of Agnes Helene (Amsden) and William Merlin Rutledge, was born Septmeber 29, 1947 the youngest of five children. Julie Ann was educated at Elkport School and attended High School at Elkader Central Community. She loved Central so much that she started her 39 year career there just two weeks after graduation. She was united in marriage to George W. Moody November 27, 1965. George passed away in April 1977. The next chapter of her life was the Dagwood and Blondie years as she began her life with David J. Gerner and years later they welcomed their only daughter, Samantha Ann. Her most important job began as a mom. During these years she also enjoyed spending her time at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Julie Ann was baptized, confirmed, and married in the same church. She very much enjoyed teaching Sunday School and spent several years writing/directing some of the most memorable Christmas Programs. Julie wore many hats literally and figuratively. She was not only the Central Community District Secretary and Bookkeeper but took on the task of "Lunch Lady" for a period of time and she thoroughly enjoyed this stint as she was close to kids and food, two of her favorite things. Outside of her day job Julie Ann had several hobbies over the years, most of which involved a good time with friends and generally a cold one. She played softball, pool, shot trap, love swimming and dancing or just relaxing on her deck enjoying her beautiful view. Most recently Julie spent a lot time keeping track of her beloved Chicago Cubs. Julie Moody was a lot of things to a lot of people and most everyone knows her by one of her many nicknames. Moody, JuJu, Jules, Momma Julie, Auntie Moo, or just Momm. She would often say "You can call me just about anything just dont call me late for dinner." Julie Moody was a mom above all else, always took the time to know Samms friends as her own friends and welcomed everyone with open arms. She kept track of what everyone was doing and where they were going and definitely what they were having for dinner. She loved talking to her friends online, near and far, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. She left an impression on everyone she met. We will forever remember her sense of humor and infectious laugh. Survivors include her daughter dearest, Samantha Ann Gerner, Huntington Beach, CA. Fur babies Skittles & Payton, grand dog Katja. David J. Gerner, spouse and friend, Garber, IA. Cindy (Jason) Offermann & family Dyersville, IA, daughter of David. Two brothers, Kent Rutledge, Brunswick, GA and Terry (Gracie) Rutledge, Manchester, IA. Sister in Law Jody (Kenneth) Schroeder and brother in law Stuart Moody, both of Guttenberg. As well as David Gerners three brothers and four sisters and their families. Many nieces and nephews. There were a lot of branches to the family tree. She is preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Moody, her parents, a sister Jacklyn Meyer, brother Gary Rutledge, brothers in law Stephen Moody and Allan Meyer and grandson Austin Gerner. In Lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, memorials are preferred to benefit organizations that meant so much to Julie during her time here on earth.
