Katherine Mary Weseman, age 81, of Guttenberg, IA, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on April 5, 1931, in Iowa City to Fred and Lila (Conklin) Wade. Katherine grew up in Alma Wisconsin and attended the school there through the 11th grade. She then moved to Guttenberg where she graduated with the Guttenberg class of 1949. On June 24, 1950, Katherine was united in marriage with Delos "Pocky" Weseman in Guttenberg. This union blessed them with two daughters, Judy and Barbara. Katherine worked for many years as a deputy clerk for the City of Guttenberg. Katherines favorite activity was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She followed all the activities of her grandchildren and never missed a game, a dance performance, a play, an art show or anything involving her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the many trips and travels she had taken with her husband, particularly the trip to Ireland to explore her Irish heritage. During her free time, she was an avid reader. She also enjoyed taking care of her home, flowers and yard. Katherine was an active member of St. Marys Church and served on the St. Annes Society and Social Concerns Committee. She was also active with St. Marys School where she volunteered regularly, including being a reading tutor after her retirement. Katherine was a long term and active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as Chaplain for several terms. Katherine received additional training in substance abuse treatment and worked as a volunteer counselor with the Northeast Iowa Substance Abuse Coalition as well as the Iowa SAFE Community Network. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Pocky Weseman; two daughters, Judy (Dana) Moser of Cedar Falls, and Barbara (Roger) Moser of Guttenberg; four grandchildren, Zachary Moser and Nicholas Moser both of Cedar Falls, Rachel Moser of Lexington Kentucky and Hannah Moser of San Antonio Texas and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and two brothers.In Lieu of flowers, plants and all styles of sympathy a memorial has been established to benefit many of the organizations that were important to Katherine.
