Kathleen “Kathy” M. McQuillen, 61, of Holy Cross passed away peacefully from natural causes on Monday, October 10, 2016, at her home. Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 pm Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9 – 10 am at the funeral home prior to mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 15, 2016, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate. Kathy was born May 19, 1955, in Dubuque, the first born daughter of James E. “Goph” and Mary Jane (Werner) Roth. She graduated from East Dubuque High School with the Class of 1973. Her career consisted of Crescent Electric Supply Co. and then John Deere Dubuque Works for 37 years until her retirement. She married Loras “Lefty” McQuillen on November 11, 1978, in East Dubuque, IL, and they were blessed with two daughters. Kathy will be remembered fondly for her genuine and bubbly personality, as an outstanding softball player, volleyball coach, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorite things in life were her husband, two daughters and grandchildren, her pets and her large extended family. Survivors include her husband, Loras; two daughters: Julie (fiancé Brian Kluesner) McQuillen of Epworth, Angie (Matt) Ahmann of Farley; 4 grandchildren: Evelyn, Blake, Shayla and Harper; siblings: Kim (Jim) Gau of Guttenberg, Cindy (John) Gilligan of Dubuque, Jim Roth of Woodridge, IL, John (Karen) Roth of Naperville, IL, Bill (Judy) Roth of Marion, Bob (Anne) Roth of Peosta and Dave Roth of Brookfield, IL; in-laws: Diane (Ken) Hannan of Rickardsville, Bob (Linda) McQuillen of Peosta, Lyle (Ann) McQuillen of Dubuque, Ruth (Chuck) Gassmann of Ankeny, and Alan (Rose) McQuillen of Peosta; and 34 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. “Goph” and Mary Jane Roth, father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Clotilda (Maiers) McQuillen, a nephew, Pat Hannan, and a stillborn sister-in-law, Mary Ann McQuillen. In lieu of flowers, a Kathleen McQuillen memorial has been established. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.kramerfuneral.com.
