MONTICELLO, IOWA Kenneth J. Schwendinger, 91 of Monticello, Iowa died Monday March 8, 2010 at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center, Monticello, Iowa from complications of leukemia. Friends may call from 2 until 7: p.m. Thursday March 11, 2010 at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday March 12, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, Iowa with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello, Iowa. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Birch. Survivors include: one daughter, Jolene Schwendinger of Monticello; four sons, Dean (Marty) of Monticello, Ken (Gail) of Salisbury, NC, David (Tammy) of Williamsburg, IA and Steven (Allison) of Las Vegas, NV; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Schwendinger of Mayer, MN; a sister-in-law, Darlene Schwendinger of Cedar Rapids, IA. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosalene; one son, Thomas; a daughter, Louise; two brothers, Louis and Jim; and two sisters, Lenore Kruse and Mae Kedley. Kenneth was born on November 25, 1918 in Taylor, Iowa, the son of Peter and Ella Sweeney Schwendinger. He attended school through the eighth grade and then worked as a farm hand throughout the Epworth area, mainly with the Kurt Farms. He married Rosalene Kuriger on June 2, 1942 at Sacred Heart Church in Monticello, Iowa. Following his marriage he worked many years for Kuriger Brothers Plumbing and Heating. In 1973 he founded Ken's Plumbing and Heating which he operated until he retired. Kenneth enjoyed watching the Cubs, gardening, and playing cards, especially bridge. Memorials are preferred.
