Larene Zearley

LaRene M. (Abel) Zearley, age 80, of Abel Island, IA, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. She was born the daughter of Mick and Irene (Friedlein) Abel, January 17, 1930, in Guttenberg. LaRene graduated from the Gutenberg High School in 1948, owned and managed Abel Island and was a homemaker for many years. On February 27, 1953, she was united in marriage with Donald Zearley at St. Johns Church in Guttenberg. LaRene volunteered at the American Red Cross Blood Mobil in Guttenberg and Senior Meal Site. She enjoyed gardening and caring for Abel Island. She is survived by two daughters, Mickey (Pat) Healy and Karen (Lavern) Bird of Abel Island; one son, Christopher (Margi) Zearley of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren, Meggan (Corey) Stanton, Patrick Healy, Donald Zearley, Katrina Zearley, Hayley Pressley and Rileigh Pressely; two step-grandchildren, Amanda Bird and Haley Bird; and one great-granddaughter, Alexsis Healy.
