Larry J. Jasper, 80, of Hopkinton, Iowa died Monday, January 30, 2012 at Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, Iowa from complications of leukemia. Friends may visit from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012 at St Luke's Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa where a vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2012 at St Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, Iowa with burial in Hopkinton Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. John Kremer. Larry was born on September 29, 1931 near Hopkinton, Iowa the son of Frank J. and Esther (Greif) Jasper. He was a member of 1950 graduating class of Hopkinton High School. Larry was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952-1954. He married Mary Frances Turnis on June 9, 1955 in Worthington, Iowa. Larry was a self-employed milk hauler. He served on the Hopkinton City Council from 1970-2001 and was the Fire Department Chief in Hopkinton for many years. Larry was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Hopkinton and Knights of Columbus, Monticello Council. Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances, children: Jeff (Laurie) of Cedar Rapids, Jan of Iowa City, Eric of Hopkinton, Scott (Susan) of Sherman, TX, Jamie (Kathy) of Central City; three grandchildren: Jonathan, Matthew and David Jasper all of Cedar Rapids and one sister, Bernadette (Ray) Trenkamp of Maynard, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Betty Leibold and Mary Ann Turnis, and nephew, David Turnis. A memorial has been established in Larry's memory.
