Survivors include his wife, Paula. Three sons: Brian (Stephanie) Rickels of Bernard, Jason (Stephania) Rickels of Scotch Grove and Jeremy (JoLee) Rickels of Monticello. One daughter: Lisa Barta of Lisbon and special friend Willie Daubs. Eleven grandchildren and soon expecting a twelfth. Three Brothers: Marvin (Daisy) Rickels of Monticello, Ervin (Dixie) Rickels of Anamosa and Eugene (Kay) Rickels of Hopkinton. Two sisters: Shirley Lietz and Susan (Roger) Poole of Scotch Grove. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one stillborn sister. Larry was born on July 2, 1944 in Scotch Grove, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Dorthea Antons Rickels. He married Paula Wears on February 28, 1964 at St Johns Lutheran Church, in Scotch Grove. Larry was an active supporter of Compassion International, Four Oaks, Exchange Student Programs, National Rifle Association and The American Legion. He had many fun times fishing, hunting, farming, camping and floating the river. But most importantly Larry loved his grandchildren and creating laughter. Larry D. Rickels, 65, of Scotch Grove, Iowa died Friday, July 3rd, 2009 at his residence after a battle with cancer Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday July 7th 2009 at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 8th, 2009 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, Iowa with burial in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello Iowa. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Daubs . Military Honors will be provided by the Arthur P. O'Rourke, American Legion Post #209 A memorial has been established in Larry's memory.
