Laura Cullen

Laura (Hyde) Cullen, age 62, of Ankeny, IA, died Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines after a sudden illness. She was born the youngest of five children on February 3, 1950, to Oscar and Florence (Gull) Hyde in Dubuque. Laura received her education and she graduated from the Guttenberg High School. She furthered her education by attending Mankato Business School. Laura later worked for a bank in Dubuque where she met her husband to be. Laura married David Cullen on February 27, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg. This union later blessed them with two daughters, Heather and Shannon. For many years Laura made her home in Ankeny Iowa where she worked as a Financial Analyst for Principal Financial Group. Over the last several years, Laura was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She made several quilts over the years for Y.E.S which stands for Youth Emergency Shelter. Laura was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. She also made several afghans for members of her family. Lauras memory will be forever cherished by her two daughters, Heather (Scott) Elick of South Bend, Ind. and Shannon Cullen of Ankeny; two granddaughters, Gabriel and Brynne; two siblings, Ron (Chris) Hyde of Dubuque and Kathyrn (Larry) Borcherding of Guttenberg, one step-sister Carol Brockway of Tripoli, and many other relatives and friends. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Feb 2, 2009, brother Larry Meisner and sister Alberta Sargent.Memorial Service: Wednesday 10:00 A.M.
