Laura Palumbo

Laura Palumbo, 88, of Guttenberg died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center, surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Rudolfo and Lila Tortolero on Aug. 18, 1928. She came to Guttenberg in 2004. Her youngest son, George, was living in Guttenberg, and when she saw the natural beauty and small town atmosphere, she fell in love with it. She joined the art group and continued with her oil painting, for which she won several awards. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary's Church where she participated in many various activities. Everyone in church who spotted the lady with the beautiful hat knew that Laura was there. She was also an ardent member of the Red Hat Society. Laura is survived by her three children, Lou (Gail) Morteo, Norma (Tim) McKern and George Morteo; grandchildren, Luis Morteo, George Morteo and Brittnee and Christina Morteo; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Martinez, and many other relatives and friends.
