Laverne Osterhaus

PETERSBURG, IOWA Laverne M. Osterhaus, 82, of Dyersville, and formerly of Petersburg, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 4:00 and an American Legion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. Carl Ries will officiate. Laverne was born January 22, 1933, in Petersburg, Iowa the son of Frank and Rosa (Bruggemann) Osterhaus. He served in the Army from 1954 – 1956. He married Kathleen M. Knipper on June 12, 1956, in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they farmed near Petersburg for 25 years until moving to town. He worked for Delaware County Road Maintenance until retiring in 2002. They moved to the Ellen Kennedy Living Center in Dyersville in 2014. They were lifelong members of SS Peter & Paul Parish. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, 6 children: Gary (Deb) Osterhaus of Petersburg, Jane Osterhaus of Dubuque, Carl (Debbie) Osterhaus of Rosemount, MN, Pat (Patsy) Osterhaus of Petersburg, Lori (Tim) Daly of Bankston, Tammy (Eric McClintock) Osterhaus of North Liberty; 10 grandchildren: Chad (Kris) Osterhaus, Kurt (Christy) Osterhaus, Lara Osterhaus, Jordan, Baylee Osterhaus, Ashley, Leah Osterhaus, Jimmy, Sarah and Eric Boeckenstedt, 6 great grandchildren: a sister, Virgie Domeyer of Manchester; in-laws: Gladys Osterhaus, Rosemary Klein, Venita Knipper, Julia Knipper, Walter (Charlotte) Knipper, Richard (Janie) Knipper. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren: Abby Osterhaus in 1999, Greg Osterhaus in 1984, siblings: Lester Osterhaus, Marie (Mickey) Domeyer, Raymond Osterhaus in infancy, Ambrose (Emily) Osterhaus, Omer (Elaine) Osterhaus, Julanda (Lawrence) Koch and Gene Osterhaus; in-laws: Daniel Domeyer, Nellie Knipper, Laverne (Alice) Knipper, Gilbert (Viola) Knipper, Ralph Knipper, Joe (Norma) Knipper, Mary Knipper in infancy, and Dick Klein.
