DYERSVILLE, IOWA Leo M. “Lig” Meyer, 89, of Dyersville, Iowa died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville. Visitation will be held 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 9:00 a.m. and an American Legion Service will be held at 12:00 Noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Leo was born June 6, 1926, in New Vienna, Iowa the son of Leo A. and Alvina (Bries) Meyer. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1946 being stationed in Belgium, France and earned a Victory Ribbon/ Occupational Medal while in Germany. Leo married Virginia “Ginger” Conrad on June 13, 1950, in Dyersville, Iowa. He worked for Interstate Power Co. in Dyersville retiring in 1985, after 39 years of service. He was an avid baseball player and fan, having played for the Dyersville Whitehawks and the New Vienna Semi-pro teams. Later he began coaching Little League while his sons came through the program. He was a life member of American Legion Post 137, where he served as the Secretary for several years. He also loved to play Solo, bowl, go fishing and getting together with his family. Leo is survived by 3 daughters: Nancy (Tom) Hittenmiller of Grimes, Janet (Mark) Wulfekuhle of Farley, Peggy (Dale) Timmerman of Dickeyville, Wis.; 2 sons: Bob (Rhonda) of Hopkinton and Mike (friend Donna Brodsack) of Dyersville; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; siblings: Merlin (Kathy) Meyer of New Vienna, Darlene O’Connor and Mary Heinrichs both of Dyersville, a sister-in-law: Annie Vaske of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 2009, a daughter-in-law, Lori Steger Meyer, a granddaughter, Kristy Timmerman, one brother, Alvin (Dorothy) Meyer; in-laws: Bob Heinrichs, Frank O’Connor, Wilfred “Butch” Vaske, Alfred (Idell) Conrad, Merlin (Betty) Conrad, Robert (Eileen) Conrad, Louis (Margie) Conrad. We would like to thank all of the nurses and nurses aids at Oak Crest Manor for the wonderful care of our family these last few years. Memorials are preferred in leiu of flowers.
