Survivors include his wife, Cheryl, of Worthington, IA; a daughter, Christy Gaul of Cedar Rapids, IA; a son, Brian Gaul (friend, Lori Delaney) of Dyersville, IA; 5 brothers: Bernard of New Vienna, IA, Les (Deb) of Ethel, MO, Karl and Mark (Mary) both of Worthington, IA, Cyril (Paula) of Schaumburg, IL; 6 sisters: Rose Gansemer of Manchester, IA, Gwen (Carl) Healey and Ruth (Darel) Hilkin both of Dubuque, IA, Pearl (Francis) Schaefers of Garnavillo, IA, Mary Lou (Ivan) Meyers of Bellevue, NE, Julie (Clark) Bradley of Marion, IA; his mother-in-law, Mary Koster of Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Linda (Jim) Koster-Packer of Stoughton, MA; 3 brothers-in-law, Randall (Sue) Koster, Robert (Sharon) Koster and Dale (Gayle) Koster, all of Dubuque, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wrendy, in 1977; 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Gaul and Bev Gaul; 2 nephews, John and Jeff Gaul; his father-in-law, Benjamin Koster; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Koster. Leon was born on October 25, 1945 in Prairieburg, Iowa, the son of Nicholas A. and Anna B. (Naber) Gaul. He married Cheryl Koster on September 11, 1971 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they farmed west of Dyersville. Leon also worked a few side jobs at Cascade and Dyersville sales barns, and Payless Foods. His hobbies included gardening, walking his dogs, and being outdoors. He enjoyed his family, and doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and collecting coins.
