Leona Schroeder

Leona D. Schroeder, age 91, of Garnavillo, IA, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on August 17, 1920 on the family farm near Garnavillo to Arno and Emma (Theodore) Stickfort. Leona grew up in the Garnavillo area graduating from the Garnavillo High School in 1938. She later furthered her education from Upper Iowa and used those skills to teach at a country school. Leona also contributed her cooking skills to the Garnavillo School and the Guttenberg Care Center. On June 26, 1941, Leona was united in marriage with Stanley Schroeder at St. Paul Church in Garnavillo. Together they operated their farm as well as raised three children that they were blessed with. Leona was part of several church organizations. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, travelling, reading, baking cookies and spending time with her family which was truly her great accomplishment in life. Leonas memory will be forever cherished by her three children, Sharon (Michael) Madson of Grand Junction CO, Susan (Gary) Creasman of Boone IA and Steve (Pat) Schroeder of St. Olaf; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ivanelle Schlake of Farmersburg and Christina (Virgil) Niehaus of Guttenberg and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stanley; one brother, Earl Stickfort; four sisters, Mary Stickfort in infancy, Irma Blume, Fern Terveen and Lena Hempeler.Visitation: Tuesday 3:00 - 6:00 P.M.
