Leonard August Morarend

Leonard August Morarend was born the son of Arno and Clara (Friedlein) Morarend on January 8, 1930 on the home farm in Osterdock. He passed away Sunday, April 8, 2007, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Leonard received his education from the Jefferson #9 Country School and farmed his entire life near Osterdock. In his early years, Leonard and his family helped build St. Johns Lutheran church. In 1952 he entered the United States Army serving his county in the Korean Conflict. He later returned home and married Jean Williams on February 2, 1957 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport. To this union they were blessed with three children. Leonard enjoyed riding his horse and 4 wheelers, playing euchre, pool and bingo at Christmas time, hunting, fishing, watching baseball, spending time with family, talking on the phone and mushroom hunting. Leonard was a champion speller, he was also a member of the state choir and during his time in service he became a well skilled cook and even enjoyed being in the kitchen at home. Leonard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Morarend; two daughters, Pamela (Phillip) Schaffer of Manchester, IA, Joleen (Lonnie) Beatty of Brooklyn, IA; one son, Allen Morarend of Guttenberg; five grandchildren, Melody of Granada, Spain; Timothy and Dustin of Manchester, Gregory and Hunter of Brooklyn, IA; two brothers, Lyle Morarend of Texas/Guttenberg and William (Gerene) Morarend of Delaware; one sister in law Lois Morarend of Strawberry Point, He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters in infancy, two brothers, Veryl and Delois.Visitation: Wednesday 5:00 - 8:00 P.M.
