Lester Osterhaus

Les was born on November 8, 1928, in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of Frank and Rosa (Bruggeman) Osterhaus. He served his country in the US Army from 1951 - 1953 in Korea. Les married Gladys Ann Pins on July 27, 1954 in Sand Springs, Iowa. Together they farmed near Petersburg until 1975 when they moved to Dyersville. Les also worked at Floyd's Feed Store and Paul's Country Farm Store throughout the years. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, he especially cherished his grandchildren. Les was a member of the VFW Post 7736 and American Legion Post 137. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, 5 children: Linda (Ken) Petersen of Lutz, FL, Craig (Sherry) and Jeff (Tammy) Osterhaus both of Dyersville, John (Julie) Osterhaus of North Liberty, IA, Deb (Rick) Osterhaus-Eudaley of Ft. Myers, FL, 9 grandchildren: Tony (Jaclyn) Osterhaus, Jessica Osterhaus (friend Jason), Melissa and Nicole Meyers, Ashley and Morgan Osterhaus, Samantha and Ben Osterhaus and Nicole Sofolo, 1 great grandchild, Kamryn Stockton, 3 siblings: Laverne (Kathleen) Osterhaus of Petersburg, Marie Domeyer and Virgie Domeyer both of Manchester, sisters-in-law, Rosie Klein of Manchester, Florence McElmeel of Waukesha, WI, and brother-in-law, Eldon (Marilyn) Pins of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Ambrose, Raymond, Omer and Gene Osterhaus, one sister, Julanda Koch, two sisters-in-law: Emily Osterhaus, Helen Stegman, 4 brothers-in-law: Lawrence Koch, Mickey Domeyer, Danny Domeyer and Lynell McElmeel. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W.Post 7736 will gather at 6:00 p.m. for a service Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W. Post 7736. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Gross Memorials are preferred.
