Lois A. Kern

Lois A. Kern, 81, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at MercyOne Senior Care.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Funeral mass will commence at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Basilica with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Podhajsky will officiate.

Lois was born August 15, 1943, in Dubuque, IA, daughter of Hugo and Regina (Deutmeyer) Funke. She married Arthur Kern on August 28, 1963, in Dyersville, Iowa. She was deeply involved in her faith and loved spending time with her family. She farmed the family farm with her husband and then went to work at the Dyersville social center.

Survivors include her children: Jim (Brenda) Kern and June (Dan) Putz, both of Dyersville and Jill (Dave) Kelchen of Farley; 8 grandchildren: Jason (Brenda) Kern, Kera (Josh) Renne, Kayla (Casey) Demmer, Briget (Brett) Featherston, Brent (Annie) Putz, Brock (Stephanie) Putz, Regan (Bryce) Hoerner and Grant (Selena Fischer) Kelchen; 14 great grandchildren; siblings: Theresa Schindler, Darlene (Wayne) Wegmann and Janet Funke, all of Dyersville; in-laws: Dale (Donna) Kern of Des Moines, Dorothy Ruppenkamp of Iowa City, Leon (Marilyn) Kern of New Vienna, David (Jeanette) Kern of Colorado, Linda Kern-Garbisch of Kailua, HI, Rick (Terry) Kern of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 2021, her parents; siblings: Dorothy (Leo) Mensen, Verna Lee (Ed) Digman, Janice (Lavern) Mensen, Rita (Lawrence) Lansing, Leon (Karen) Funke, Mary Lou Funke and Floyd Funke; in-laws: Charlie Schindler, Don Ruppenkamp, Darlene (Howard) Wedewer, Robert Kern, and Judy Kern (in infancy).
