MONTICELLO, IOWA Loretta M. Beckman, 68 of Monticello, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at home with family by her side. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with a rosary recitation at 3:00 p.m. A continued visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 on Monday April 4, prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate. Loretta, better known as “Ret” to her family and friends, was born August 12, 1947 in Temple Hill, the daughter of Lloyd and Elda (Otting) Takes. She grew up with her 15 siblings in Temple Hill and Monticello and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1965. On October 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Pat Beckman, at Sacred Heart Church, Monticello. In their early years of marriage, Loretta and Pat farmed together until moving closer to Monticello where she started working at Julin Printing until her retirement in 2006. After retirement, Ret and Pat lived their dream traveling and living in their motor home. At their second home in Texas, they made many special friends that also became their second family. Ret loved playing cards, going to Bingo with the girls, and keeping Pat happy. On October 1, Ret and Pat would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She will be remembered for her contagious smile, her witty comebacks, and her ability to make friends wherever she went. Those left to cherish Loretta’s memory are her devoted husband Pat, 2 loving daughters, Chris Guy of Springville, Kim (Zack) Nickels of Monticello, 4 cherished grandchildren, Emily Guy, Aaron (Shawna) Guy, Logan Cigrand, Jordyn Cigrand, 15 siblings and their families, Joe Takes, L.J. Takes, Jean Takes, Joan Manternach, Mary Kay Ackermann, Carolyn Manternach, Darlene Wilcox, Sally Sawyers, Tom Takes, Al Takes, Alice Brighton, Carl Takes, Charlie (Tuna) Takes, Robbie Takes, Billy Takes, Pat’s 7 siblings and their families, Marc Beckman, Bill Beckman, Tom Beckman, Janet Peterson, Marcia Monk, Paul Beckman, Myrna Sasina and her camping families in Monticello and Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant daughter, Laura Elizabeth. In Lieu of flowers a donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
