Louis Mescher

Survivors include his wife, Gisela, 3 sons: Steven (Lois), Errick (Jane),and Russell (Penny) all of Dyersville, a daughter Judith Mescher of Dyersville, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 5 brothers: Alfred "Fritz" (Jeanette) Mescher and Richard (Jean) Mescher both of Dyersville, Gilbert (Bernice) Mescher of Farley, Robert (Lou Ann) Mescher of Strawberry Point and Dave (Jean) Mescher of Monticello, 2 sisters: Armella Phillips of Fly Creek, NY and Rosemary Nelson of Salmon, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Harry, Clarence "C.J." and Bill Mescher and 3 sisters: Viola Mescher, Alice Althoff and Marie Kramer. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or to donor's choice. Louis was born on March 5, 1922 in New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mathilda (Koopmann) Mescher. He married Kathryn Vorwald on September 18, 1946 in Colesburg, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1988. Louis then married Gisela E. Oberle Baia on June 15, 2001 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa. Louis worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Iowa Dept. of Transportation for 38 years retiring in 1986, during which time he developed several time and money saving devices for the state. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid amateur photographer.
