Luke William (Bill) Smith, age 74, of Guttenberg, IA, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born the son of Dan C. and Rita (Woerdehoff) Smith on January 6, 1939 in Colesburg, IA. Luke grew up in the Colesburg area and later attended the Guttenberg Community School graduating in 1957. After graduation Luke joined the U.S. Army where he served for two years and received an honorable discharge in August of 1959. Luke took a job with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Lock & Dam #10 where he worked for much of his life. On September 12, 1964, Luke was married to Karilyn Vogt in North Buena Vista. Luke loved living in the country and riding horses. He also enjoyed playing cards, softball, dancing at Lakeside and spending time with his grandkids, family and friends. A longstanding member of the AMVETS Luke took great pride in placing the American flag on Estes Point as needed. Luke will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Karilyn, four children; Amy (Paul Domaas) Bond, Ann Charette and her children, Mason & Luc Charette, Daniel (Darcy) Smith and their children, Olivia & Blake Smith, Abbe (Lincoln Jackson) Smith, sister, Becky (Roger) Hefel, and many other relatives and friends. Luke was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings; Bonnie Vorwald, Lucy Reyerson, Patt Smith and Bart Smith.Memorial Service: Friday 10:30 A.M.
