Lyle Phelps

Lyle Edwin Phelps was born the son of Merton and Bertha (Kauffman) Phelps, December 10, 1924, on the family farm near Colesburg. He died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at River Living Center in Guttenberg. Lyle graduated from the Colesburg High School in 1943; served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the John Deere Dubuque Works; a sixty year member of Guttenberg American Legion Post 373; thirty-six year member of Guttenberg Fire Dept.; and enjoyed traveling and woodworking. On May 1, 1946, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Lewis, in Richland Washington. Survivors include, two daughters, Jeanette (James) Hill Jr. of Indian Trail, N.C. and Gail (Daryl) Rausch of Monroe, Wis.; one son, Larry Phelps of Evans, Colo.; three sisters, Lillian Handke of Guttenberg, Lois (Jack) Hill of Waukegan, Ill., and Lila (Ronnie) Bushaw of Plant City, Fla.; two brothers, Lowell (Jeaninne) Phelps of Colesburg and Lenny (Janet) Phelps of Colesburg; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
