Margaret Louise Meyer

Margaret Louise (Kaiser) Meyer, age 101, of Guttenberg, formerly of Garnavillo, IA, died Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Guttenberg Care Center. Louise was born on January 16, 1907, on the family farm three miles south of Smithville, Arkansas, the daughter of Ludwig Herman Kaiser and Ida Mae (Fortenberry) Kaiser. Louise attended school in Imboden, Arkansas and graduated from Sloan Hendrix Academy in 1926. After graduation Louse attended Draughon Business Colleges in Memphis, Tennessee and Fort Smith, Arkansas. For eight years Louise did general office work and for a year or more in the early 1930s Louise and her sister, Mary, operated a caf in Imboden, Arkansas. In 1938, Louise, her parents and brother moved to Tempe, Arizona. While they were there, Louise met Louis Meyer, her future husband. They were married on August 30, 1939, in a lawn ceremony at the home of the Kaisers in Imboden, Arkansas. After their marriage, the made their home on the Meyer family farm near Garnavillo where they farmed from 1939 to 1954. After retirement they spent the winter months in Arizona. Louis preceded her having died on May 17, 1988. In 1953, Louise wrote a family history, which she simply called Fortenberry. She incorporated historical dates and places into a personal story of her family. She had a great memory and kept wonderful family record. Louise was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, flowers, traveling and reading. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa Survivors include her sister, Mary Crabtree of Pocahontas, Arkansas and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Meyer of Garnavillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis, a brother, Howard Kaiser and a sister, Frances Walker. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
