Margery S Klocker

Margery S. Klocker 92, of 104 Watson St. Garnavillo died Tuesday December 20, 2005 at the Guttenberg Care Center after a long illness. Margery Pauline was born June 23, 1913 in Garnavillo IA, daughter of Realto and Clara (Roebken) Schumacher. She was a graduate of Garnavillo High School, Elkader Junior College, and Upper Iowa University. She also attended the University of Iowa and the University of Colorado at Boulder. She was married November 15, 1943 to Everett J. Klocker in Garnavillo who preceded her in death March 10, 1993. She taught elementary school at Hawkeye and West Side rural schools and later taught kindergarten at Garnavillo Elementary. She was the News Editor of the Dyersville Commercial and of the Clayton County Register. She was a national and state award winning news writer. She was a charter member of the National Federation of Press Women and the Iowa Press Women. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star, National Education Association, and Garnavillo Historical Society. Margery served for many years on the Garnavillo Library Board. She was a lifelong member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of Ladies Aid, Bereans and sang in the choir. She edited the church newsletter for 11 years. Margery enjoyed camping, traveling, reading and church activities. Survivors include; one daughter, Margaret Jones of Garnavillo; one son John (Sonja) Klocker of Ames; one grandson Alan Jones of Dubuque; one brother-in law, Charles (Betty) Klocker of Dubuque; two sisters- in law, Wilma Heiring of Avon Park Florida and Mary Esther Esch of Marion; one cousin, Vivian (John C.) Meyer and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister Winifred Allvenn.Visitation: Thursday 4:00-8:00 P.M.
