Marie F. Wachendorf Benskin

Marie Frances (Rohner) Wachendorf Benskin, age 80, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Guttenberg Care Center. She was the daughter of Frank and Irene (Miller) Rohner, born August 13, 1930, on the Rohner family farm near Garnavillo. Marie received her education from the St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from the Garnavillo High School. She was a homemaker for many years. Marie was united in marriage with Clarence Wachendorf for thirty three years, to this union fourteen children where born. After parting ways with Clarence, Marie married Herman Benskin in February 1985 until he passed away on January 19, 2005. Marie also worked for Trademark, and as a volunteer coordinator at the Guttenberg Care Center as well as various other jobs. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing, bingo, traveling, gardening, puzzles, cards, dominoes. She is survived by eight daughters, Shirley (Rick) Palmer of Lake of the Hills, Illinois, Judy Wiese Surprise, Arizona, Susan (Dayle) Troester, of Manchester, Joanne (Allen) Kuhse of Edgewood, Jeannie (Jim) Funk of Guttenberg, Pam (Larry) Wille of Guttenberg, Tina Hansel of Waterloo, and Kathy (John) Greve of Guttenberg; six sons, Jim (Lisa) Wachendorf of Coralville, Pat (Cindy) Wachendorf of Guttenberg, Mike (Rebecca) Wachendorf of Stanwood, C J (Dina) Wachendorf of Stanwood, Randy Wachendorf of Dyersville, and Paul (Patty) Wachendorf of Stanwood; forty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Wendel of Garnavillo; two brothers, David "Butch" (Pat) Rohner and Donnie (Janice) Rohner; her companion, Art Esmann; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
