Marie E. Hoeger, 101, formerly of Dyersville and Luxemburg, passed away peacefully Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Bethany Home in Dubuque, Iowa. Friends may call at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville on Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. where a parish vigil service will be held at 5:00p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Francis Xavier Basilica on Monday, October 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Quint presiding. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Luxemburg, Iowa. Marie was born on October 20, 1910, in Luxemburg, IA, daughter of John and Martha (Goebel) Wernke. She married Sylvester J. Hoeger on November 20, 1935, at Holy Trinity Church in Luxemburg, IA. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1988. Marie and Sylvester farmed near Luxemburg, IA, until their retirement in 1972, when they moved to Dyersville. She was previously a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, IA, and is a member of St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, IA. Surviving are her daughter-in-law Kathy (Wick) Hoeger of Independence, IA, daughter Karen Osterhaus of Davenport, IA, son/daughter-in-law Stephen and Jean Hoeger of Dubuque, IA, eleven grandchildren: Donna Vinar, Bruce Osterhaus, Christopher Osterhaus, Mark Osterhaus, Eric Osterhaus, Ann Hoeger, Marie Bement, Margaret Hoeger, Emily Lehman, Nicholas Hoeger, and Anna Mueller, seventeen great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Cecilia Hoeger, brother-in-law Merlin Hermsen, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Donald, son-in-law Dale Osterhaus, siblings Olivia (Al) Hermsen, Martha (Oscar) Gerken, John (Odelia) Wernke, Mathilda (Carl) Bockting, Henry (Ida) Wernke, Kathryn (Lorenz)Backhaus, Dorothy (Harold) Kann, brothers/sisters-in-law Clarence Hoeger, Ambrose and Dorothy Hoeger, and Clare (Hoeger) Hermsen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethany Home, Dubuque, IA. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Angels working at Bethany Home.
